Size & Length Guide

The single most common question we get is "how long will this actually sit on me?" Here's how to work it out in about a minute.

Measure what you already own

Lay a mangalsutra you already wear flat on a table and measure the chain end to end, including the clasp. That number is your reference length. Match it against the chain length listed on each product page.

If you're starting from scratch

Take a piece of string, drape it around your neck so it sits where you'd want the pendant to fall, mark it, and measure the string flat.

Common lengths

Length Where it sits Best for
16–18 inches Just below the collarbone Daily wear, office, under collars
18–22 inches Mid-chest The most popular everyday length
24–28 inches Below the bust line Traditional and festive wear
30 inches + Long, traditional drape Ceremonial and South Indian styles

Two things worth knowing

  • An extender chain buys you two inches of flexibility — useful if you're between lengths.
  • If you wear the piece under clothing every day, size down rather than up. A shorter chain moves less and catches on fabric less.

Still unsure? Message us before you order and we'll tell you which length to pick.
